I think you don't really have to go to Japan or to other Asian countries in order to get an Asian hairstyle. I used to live in the Philippines but we moved here in Australia 3 years ago. My hairdresser, which is an Australian can cut a Japanese hair style. Before she cuts my hair though, i usually show her a picture/model of what hair cut i want and she goes for it. So, as long as you have a picture of what hair cut you want, bring that with you when you're about to get your hair done. Just a suggestion. It worked for me and I'm lovin my hair, so it might just work for you's too.

One thing I noticed is that the asian hairstyles can be almost one of the most diverse out there.
I especially like it when they use colors:
