Akita did not suffer any damage and is welcoming tourists.
More about the earthquake

Akita City is the capital of Akita Prefecture and is located up north in the Tohoku Region of Japan. The city is best known for hosting the Kanto Matsuri, a large festival in the beginning of August in which revelers balance long bamboo poles with dozens of paper lanterns attached to the end.
