Below is a list of Kumamoto's most popular spots for cherry blossom viewing (hanami). See also our nationwide list of famous cherry blossom spots. Kumamoto Castle 10 minute tram ride from Kumamoto Station 500 yen, 8:30 to 17:30 (until 20:30 during light up) Kumamoto Castle is by far the city's most popular cherry blossom spot. Nearly a thousand cherry trees are planted across the castle grounds and in the adjacent public parks. Trees are lit up in the evening. Suizenji Koen 30 minute tram ride from Kumamoto Station 400 yen, 7:30 to 18:00 (entry until 17:30) About 150 cherry trees stand in Suizenji Koen, a beautiful Japanese landscape garden with central pond and a grass covered, miniature replica of Mount Fuji. Picnicing is allowed in designated areas of the park.
