Yamaguchi Prefecture is the westernmost prefecture on Honshu Island It is part of the Chugoku Region. Prefectural capital is Yamaguchi City. Yamaguchi, then known as Choshu, played a leading role in overthrowing the shogunate and bringing Japan's feudal era to an end.
