The Suica & NEX packages consists of a) a ticket that can be used to travel from Narita Airport into Tokyo and b) a Suica prepaid card valued 2000 yen that can be used on urban transportation in the Greater Tokyo region. The roundtrip version of the package additionally includes a ticket that can be used to travel back to Narita Airport.

Validity

a) Ticket for airport transportation

1) The ticket can be used on the JR Narita Express train (NEX) from Narita Airport to Tokyo, Yokohama or Saitama. After getting off the Narita Express, ticket holders can use the ticket to transfer to other JR trains (except limited express and shinkansen trains) to reach any JR station in the area shown on the map below:

2) The ticket can only be used from Narita Airport in the direction of Tokyo and is valid only on the day of purchase. The roundtrip version of the package additionally contains a ticket for travel back to Narita Airport, which has to be used within two weeks of purchase.

b) Suica Prepaid Card

1) The Suica prepaid card initially has a value of 2000 yen, which is made up of a refundable deposit of 500 yen and an initial balance of 1500 yen that can be used on virtually all JR and non-JR urban transportation in Greater Tokyo (and JR trains in several other areas of Japan). The card can be recharged at ticket machines.
2) The card's 500 yen deposit (and an eventual remaining balance minus a 210 yen handling fee) can be refunded at any JR ticket counter in the Greater Tokyo region (including Narita Airport). Alternatively, the balance remains valid for ten years without the card being used.
3) Visit our IC card page for more details about Suica.

Eligibility

The Suica & NEX package can only be purchased by holders of a foreign passport, which has to be presented at the time of purchase. It can also be used by foreign residents of Japan.

Point of Sale

The Suica & NEX package can only be purchased at the JR ticket offices in the basement of Narita Airport.

Assessment

The Suica & NEX package is a very good deal for foreign travelers who arrive at Narita Airport and stay a few days in the Tokyo area, during which the Suica card will come in handy, and especially for those who stay at a hotel that is easily accessible by the comfortable Narita Express train.

Compared to regular tickets for the Narita Express, the one-way version of the package saves about 1500 yen for those initially traveling to central Tokyo and even more for those traveling to Yokohama or Saitama. The round trip version of the package almost doubles those savings.
