Orientation and how to get around the Okinawa Islands
Ferries and airplanes connect Okinawa Main Island with the other islands of the Okinawa archipelago.
Kume Island, the Kerama Islands, Aguni Island, as well as Yoron Island in neighboring Kagoshima Prefecture, have airports with several daily flights to Naha. Furthermore, most inhabited islands of the Okinawa archipelago are connected with Naha Port and/or other ports on the Okinawa Main Island by ferries.
Below are access details for some major islands in the Okinawa archipelago. Prices are approximate and refer to one way journeys. In case of airplanes, prices refer to regular one way fares.
To Kume Island:
35 minutes, 9500 Yen by airplane from Naha Airport (JTA, RAC)
some direct flights from Tokyo on summer weekends (JTA)
2 hours, 3000 Yen by high speed boat from Naha
4 hours, 2500 Yen by ferry from Naha
To Kerama Islands:
20 minutes, 7500 Yen by airplane from Naha Airport (RAC)
30 minutes, 2000 Yen by high speed boat from Naha
70 minutes, 1500 Yen by ferry from Naha
To Aguni Island:
30 minutes, 8000 Yen by airplane from Naha Airport (RAC)
2 hours, 3000 Yen by ferry from Naha
To Iheya Island:
80 minutes, 2500 Yen by ferry from Unten Port on the Motobu Peninsula
