November 8, 2015 - One Day trip to Murakami-city
November 8, I went on a day trip to Murakami-city (‘ºãŽs).
‘ºãŽs is located in the northern part of Niigata Prefecture (VŠƒŒ§) and the city faces the Sea of Japan.
The population is about 62,000.
‘ºãŽs prospered as a castle town of Murakami clan, even now there are still vestiges of Samurai (•Žm) and merchant (¤l) town.
It is famous as tea -growing district of the northern limit, salmon and Murakami Beef (‘ºã‹).
Especially it's famous about salmon.
There is first salmon museum in Japan.
If we go to the museum we can know ecology or life of salmon, history and culture of the people associated with salmon.
On the way to ‘ºãŽs we stopped and looked around a place called Akashiba Gorge (ÔŽÅ‹¬), but unfortunately the best time to see autumn leaves had already finished.
My purpose was to eat Kaiseki Ryori (‰ïÈ—¿—) of salmon in ‘ºãŽs.
‰ïÈ—¿— is like a multi-course of Japanese cuisine.
I had salmon meal in a Japanese restaurant "Notoshin" that has continued for 270 years.
They were traditional cuisine, boiled, roasted or raw, not only salmon flesh, roe and heart.
Sashimi (Žhg) and roa (ƒCƒNƒ‰) were very fresh because that was caught in the morning and served in lunch.
I ate salmon heart for the first time.
The heart is a delicacy, I've never seen until that time.
Next, let me introduce to you a salmon specialty shop.
The name of this shop is "Kikkawa".
Only salmon was in the shop, it had been processed variously.
I could not count how many kinds of are.
I'm sure there was almost 100 kinds.
The appearance of the shop and the back of Kikkawa.
Salmon hung to dry from the ceiling like that.
Hanging salmon like that from ceiling or shop frontage were very common sight in the central of ‘ºãŽs.
Because the entrance of the butcher was like that !
