You may have never heard about Mombetsu(–ä•Ê) city, Hokkaido.But this city and its outskirts offers you a lot to see and experience.Firstly, let me report about Komuke lake.

Only one direct flight a day between Haneda (Tokyo) and Mombetsu is operated by ANA, or taking a bus from Sapporo or Asahikawa brings you to this tiny but cozy town facing the sea of Okhotsk. From Mombetsu bus terminal, take a local bus to Engaru (‰“Œy) that is operated every 1 to 2 hours approx.. 25 minutes and 570 JPY ride takes you the busstop of "Camp jo Iriguchi (the entrance of the Camp site)".
Just after 2 or less km walk from the busstop along the lake, you will arrive at the camp site.

The fee of this site is quite reasonable. In case you bring a tent with you, set up fee per night per person is only 200 JPY. Rental tent (up to 5 persons) costs 1,000 JPY and a sleeping bag 100 JPY, bunch of sticks for firewood 1,000 JPY. If you want to take a shower, 100 JPY for 5 minutes.

After further 1km walk from the camp site to the sea, you reach at wild flowers field, and then a restored fishermen's hut.

Mimuro Ban-ya(fishermen's hut)

Mimuro Ban-ya (ŽOŽº”Ô‰®) was originally built in 1941 as a fisherman's temporary hut, and the existing one is those that has been restored. There is almost NOTHING around the hut but the the wilderness and the lake. You can stay in this hut at surprising low price. (it depends on the season in the range of 1,000 to 2,000 JPY, of course no food included) Astonishing silence is waiting for you at night, and the countless number of stars are, too.
