The cheapest... At 100yen shops, you can get some instant-ramens. At McDonald's, they sell some hamburgers for 100yen. Cheaper... At chain fast-food restaurants, about 300-500yen, and in the morning, "morning-set" is good, I think. Sukiya http://www.sukiya.jp/menu/in/morning/Matsuya http://www.matsuyafoods.co.jp/menu/list/Yoshinoya http://www.yoshinoya.com/menu/index.htmlNakau http://www.nakau.co.jp/menu/cgi-bin/check.cgi?area=teishokuYayoiken http://www.yayoiken.com/menu/Otoya http://www.ootoya.com/grand_01.aspAnd I can recommend Orijin-bento (takeout foods). http://www.toshu.co.jp/origin/menu/menu.phpOf course, at supermarkets, especially at the evening, you can get cheaper foods. Also some shops like bakeries, they cut the price just before closing for the day. I can recommend you buy in the supermarkets, 100yen shops, drug-stores, NOT convenience stores, if you want to save your money. Japanese supermarket http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1P1UnG2QpXU

Buy all your meat and vegetables at Hanamasa. They have by far the cheapest prices in Japan.

The convinient stores are very useful and not so bad, I love seven-eleven very much. But almost all goods are costly about 10-50% than other discount stores like supermarkets, 100yen shops or drug-stores.

The cheapest way is to cook for yourself. If you don't have access to any cooking area see the first response. Otherwise, just keep in mind that you'll want to cook using what Japanese people tend to use and when it's in season. So hit up the cookbooks section of a bookstore or two and start watching the cooking shows on TV. Then head to your nearest grocery store and cruise the aisles for what's cheap. Go to your kitchen and start experimenting. Repeat. You'll become a pro in no time. :)
