A long shot - searching for a book

Basically I lived in Japan in 2006 and came across a book, a very good book! That I'd like to track down...
It was a compendium of articles printed in I *think* the 80s, based around a journalists visits to several weird and wonderful restaurants/bars in and around Tokyo. I'm pretty sure the articles were originally printed in the Japan Times and then turned into a book. The stories have stuck with me ever since I've long left Tokyo and Japan behind...
Any help tracking down the book would be greatly appreciated!
