Name translation 2013/3/15 02:39
Hi everyone.

I'm just looking for a name translation. I'm engaged to be married and my fiance is half Japanese, half Irish.

We live in Canada, and his father (who is Japanese) was born and raised here, and has no real Japanese roots other than his ethnicity.

Their family name is Mitoma, and I'm just wondering what that would translate to in Kanji.

I've always been interested in the Japanese culture, and he's never been able to find out himself.

Thanks in advance.

A quick typing of Mitoma into wikipedia tells me ŽO“Ï (3...something or other, crazy obscure kanji, wiktionary says straw mats?)

If they're unaware of their heritage and just know their name as Mitoma in English then they can use whatever kanji they want really.

Apparently there are ŽOâ˜(mitoma) station and town in the north of Hukuoka prefecture.
