Accomodation in Tokyo

'm looking for a suitable place to stay in tokyo for 2 persons. I saw some recommendations for toyoku-inn chain of hotels but as there are quite a few, I'm not sure which is the best in terms of price and location. I prefer one that is near to shopping and easy to go off for day trips. I welcome any advice. I also found a hotel called Tsukuba Hotel http://www.itcj.or.jp/facility/3/facil/313030.html. The location seems ok from the webpage but there are no pics of the hotel and surrondings so not sure how good it is. Any feedback?

Hi, I am in the Tokyo area right now. I am staying at Ryokan Katsutaro in Ueno. It is close to Ueno park and only a 10 minute walk from Ueno Station. On the Yamonte line (track 4) from Tokyo station takes about 10 minutes. http://www.katsutaro.comIt is a nice friendly place to stay. All the best, Lee.

Thks Lee...it looks like a nice and clean place but it's slightly out of my budget. I'm looking at Y8000 for 2 persons sharing with attached bathroom...The Tuskuba Hotel is near to Ueno too. Do you have any impression of it? Thks.

Hi anxious
In my opinion, there's no 8000yen hotel but hostel, sharing with others.
Is quite hard to get 8000yen for 2 pax room with bath in ideal location such as Ueno.
If cost is a concern to you, then you should be looking at hostel instead. Even a ryokan in Tokyo would have at least to cost you at 9000yen.
By the way, some hotels do offer 8500yen for a double bed, unless you and your partner are super-skinny, otherwise you would not be able to sleep comfortably. For americans' standard, is definitely a NO!!

Hi CK,
It may not be hotel but ryokan is also ok... I dun like hostel as it's usually common bathroom... I know it's difficult so I'm surprised to see the Tsukuba Hotel at less than Y8000 for a semi-double room. I think the semi-double bed is what you meant by for skinny ppl...

I've not stayed here yet (will do next week) but the Juyoh hotel sounds to be in your price range. It has double and single rooms. http://www.juyoh.co.jp/I looked for reviews for the place off a number of sites. It's classed as a hotel/hostel, but it looks pretty good for the money. It does have a common washroom but the site mentioned that you could have the women only one to yourself if you booked it (didn't mention if there was a charge or not). The hotel also organises tours. I could let you know later next week what it was like? Hope this helps

Hi if you're not looking for a flash place - this ryokan is cheap (6600Y for 2) and very basic but my wife and I didn't mind staying here. The toilet and bathroom are tiny but they do the job. Very close to the train station. http://www.toukaisou.com/index-e.htm
