Cost of canned soft drinks in Japan 2013/4/6 06:56
Can someone give me an idea of how much I will pay for a can of Coke, 7up, etc in a grocery store? Or better yet, how much a 6, 12 pack, etc would cost?

Thanks!

A 300ml bottle is Y120 in vending machines and maybe Y90 in supermarkets. A 2-liter bottle is Y168 in discount stores.

I've never seen six-packs, and I've rarely seen 7-up.

Recently I often buy 500ml canned "Coca-Cola zero" for 100yen at 711 in Tokyo.
BTW, 500ml pet-bottle of "Coca-Cola zero" and "Pepsi NEX" are 100yen at 100yen shops.
(That's not the cheapest.)

I have sometimes seen 6 pack of can sold at supermarkets, liquor stores or drug stores.
Maybe 6 pack about 5 cans (get 1 free)?
6 packed G(black oolong tea) that I bought was so at 711 during special sale.

Why can? I think pet-bottoles are easily available...

If you can't find 7-Up, try the widely available Mitsuya Cider.

Is it because they are western brand so they are more expensive? Or are japanese brands just as expensive?

They are same price.
Maybe Coca-Cola that have huge trading volume is a bit chaep.
BTW, Coca-Cola has subsidiary company in Japan.

(Nihon Koka Koora Kabushiki Gaisha)
Pepsi cooperates with Suntory in Japan.

So easy to buy them in Japan.
But I had a hard time to get "Dr.Pepper Diet".
It's imported.

I've never seen six packs of soft drinks, and where they exist for beer they don't have a discount for buying 6 singles.

Most cans of pop are 100 yen. For special imported stuff you might pay 120-150 yen.
Pretty standard price really, not expensive.

The common large pet bottle of soda is 1.5 liters. 2 liter bottles are pretty rare although you can occasionally find coke products in this size. 1.5 liter bottles range in price from around 150 yen on sale to around 200-300 yen regular price.

Cans are not normally sold in 6 packs. You can buy cans and 500 ml pet bottles in cases of 24 but there generally isn't any discount in the per can price unless it is on sale.

BTW, the cheapest place to buy soda is probably Costco which charges about 1100 yen for 24 packs of most brands.

Sorry, maybe I remembered to mistake 6pack of 350ml pet-bottles for cans.
