Dear Forum members, in November I would like to go to Japan in order to proceed with my project "Wrestling - Nation - Culture" by making a photo reportage on Sumo. I was planning to spend 1 week in Tokyo and then 1 week in Kyoto and I would be grateful if you could help me a bit... - Are there any sumo stables in Kyoto? Do you have any email contact to them? - As for Tokyo, do you have any email contact to Tokyo's sumo stables? I would like to write to them before explaining what my project is about and how I imagine my stay in the stable. Thank you very much for any help. R.

No, they are all in the Tokyo area: http://sumo.goo.ne.jp/ozumo_meikan/sumo_beya/heya_shozaichi/
And I am pretty sure that they don't communicate by e-mail. And especially not in English. Unless you speak Japanese (and maybe even if you do), I think you will need a Japanese person who is familiar with the sumo world to help you approach a suitable stable. Even a simple visit to a morning practice is difficult on your own.
