Career Guidance in Japan 2013/5/23 17:16
Hello,

I have some questions about career guidance in Japan but haven't been able to find anything on the internet. Hopefully some Japanese school employees roams these forums, able to answer my questions.

Thank you in advance!

1. Who care for the career counselling of students in school?

2. What kind of education does the person who cares for career counselling have?

3. How and where is the career counselling done?

4. What is most important in a career interview in Japan?

5. How and where do students get information about possible career choices?

6. What policy guidelines are there about career counselling in Japan?

AilyAdams,

1. Who care for the career counselling of students in school?

At junior and senior high schools, your homeroom teacher or the teacher in charge. In college, there usually is a job counseling center in the campus.

2. What kind of education does the person who cares for career counselling have?

The former are ordinary teachers. The latter are often consultants. As for their school education, they are university graduates, but their background apart from that may vary.

3. How and where is the career counselling done?

The former; anywhere. The latter; in the center.

4. What is most important in a career interview in Japan?

You can't pinpoint. Behavior, dress code, will, common sense, ambition, experience... many things can be important, but then, it also depends on the industry.

5. How and where do students get information about possible career choices?

Teachers, school bulletin boards, free papers, on-line etc.

6. What policy guidelines are there about career counselling in Japan?

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean.

I'm not a school employee, by the way.
