Giving gift to vendor or manufacturer?

Hello. I am traveling to Tokyo and meeting with a few companies in hopes of buying/importing their goods to the US. Since I am the buyer, not trying to sell to them, would it be appropriate to give them small gift? Or would they find that strange? I appreciate your help!

It's a good manner to preasent something small related to your company, hometown or country. Such gift is called Žè“yŽY(te-miyage; hand-carreid gift). Japanese business persons often give te-miyage at beginning of their first meeting.
