According to wikipedia the town has approx 16,500 people.
Is there any private high school and college out there?
Looks like the nearest ones are in Sendai.

Yeah, its a small town, though its beautiful, one of the official top three views in Japan.
Also central Sendai, which does have universities and all that sort of thing, is just half an hour away.
