Japanese Sim card + Samsung galaxy tablet

Hi,

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 with Android, in Germany I use it with a normal SIM card to get Internet access etc.
I am coming to Japan for a Working Holiday soon, and unfortunately I have no idea or any knowledge about it, if it would work with a Japanese SIM Card?

I would be very happy if someone could help me:

-Does a Japanese Sim Card work with my Tablet to get a internet access and call access? (My Tab has also a phone function)
-If yes, what kind of card do I need? I need internet and phoning. Can anyone recommend me something?

You phone takes mini-sized sim cards.
