Commonly used sites like Gurunavi? 2013/10/14 10:28
What are some sites that are commonly used by Japanese people besides the obvious ones like: Yahoo.co.jp, and http://www.gnavi.co.jp/ ?

I just got back from Japan (with a job, yay!) and the interviewer highly encouraged me to use 2 Channel. Apparently, all sorts of popular topics in Japan are discussed in forums.

Let us keep in mind that those websites themselves recently announced that users should be aware that the reviews are based on personal tastes or even could be false. Anyone can post on these things.

Especially 2ch also has a bad reputation for its biased posts, as the website is an anything-goes zone that is not censored at all. So while many topics may be decent and healthy, other topics can be full of biased ideas that don't even represent the society in general.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't use them, but just be aware of that and utilize them just for reference (same goes for Japanese Wikipedia).
