Can you bring Japanese food outside of Japan?

Hi
I'm going to Japan on the 1st of January until the 7th. This is my first visit to Japan, and i can't tell you how excited am i.
One of the things that bothers me was this line from the book "A Geek In Japan", it said that "YOU CAN'T BRING FOOD TO OUTSIDE OF JAPAN".
Is this really true??
I'm a food lover, and i'm already planning to pack some japanese snack (Pocky, Calorie Mate, tokyo banana to name a few) back home. If these were true, i'd be devastated
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! :)

Yes, of course, you can bring food outside of Japan. Japan does not care, at all. Nor are there any checks.
However, depending on what country you will importing the food, there may be some problems. Many countries prohibit the import of certain types of food. Others don't. So, it really depends on where you will be going from Japan.

Thank you so much for the reply!
Yes, i'm coming from Indonesia, whereas there is not a very strict policy regarding packaged foods here.
This is such a relief, thank you!

Snacks should be fine. It's meat products and vegetables that you have to be careful about.

Brought a load of Japanese snacks and candy back to Canada and even brought Canadian goodies over to my Japanese friends. No issues with customs in either of the two countries.
