Dairy and/or raw milk in Tokyo? 2014/1/26 17:01
Is there anywhere in or near Tokyo where I can buy unpasteurized, non-homogenized milk? or maybe a dairy where i can have fun milking a cow or something and take home the milk?

You can buy at milk stand of JR Akihabara, Sobu line platform. Ask at the milk stand lady "Minna-no-Gyunyu"(Non-Homogenized). I think the price is 140, 150 or 160 YEN per bottle(180 or 200ml).

Antenna shop Hokkaido Foodist across the street from Tokyo Station carries something called "wild milk." I have no idea what that means though....

AFAIK it's not legal to sell unpasteurized milk. I've spokes to dairy farm people before and from memory it's legally problematic to distribute it at all.

There was another thread about milk:

In some upscale supermarkets in Japan, you should be able to find non-homogenized milk.
But these too have been pasteurized.

For real fresh milk, you'd have to go to more specialized places - such as small pastures with cows (for fun for kids mostly). They allow you to drink it up on the spot, but not to take home, by the way (as far as I know).

Some shops outside Tokyo, for example those at "Michi-no-Eki" - roadside local specialty shop malls, often found in popular sightseeing spots or along the highway...

I don't think that non-sterilized milk is widely sold in Japan. Milk will be stored in refrigerator for a few days. there is no guarantee about growing bacteria, if not sterilized.

Raw milk (seinyu) is available at Shinjuku Isetan, basement Chefs collection shop.

You can check (japanese page) http://www.omoiyari.com/ for more info.
