Can anyone recommend any GOOD (Hub need not apply) western style pubs in Tokyo? In particular around the Ueno area.

Google is your friend..... http://www.sunnypages.jp/search/ueno_asakusa/tokyo_nightlife/british_p..."The Rose and Crown is known for its decidedly British decor and a wide variety of beers. Located in Atre, a shopping mall connected to Ueno Station, The Rose and Crown serves both yoshoku and western dishes for lunch for under 1,000yen. British beer food, roast beef and fish and chips for example, are the most popular dishes. Happy hour is from 5pm-7pm. Other locations in Yurakucho and Shimbashi." "A British pub established in Ueno in 1996, Warrior Celt's official language is English, and more than half of the patrons are Westerners. Most Japanese patrons speak English here. If you're ever homesick, take the train to super-traditional Ueno to find a cozy oasis of all things British. "

If you don't like the Hub I can't see why you'd like the Rose and Crown. Same thing but more expensive. There's an Irish pub at the Iriya exit of Ueno station and there's another one called The World End across the street from the main Ueno station exit. Can't see what you problem with the Hub is unless it is the selection of beer. In that case Warrior Celt is the place for imported ales from the UK. Usually busy on weekends often with live music. A quieter but interesting new place with beers made locally called Campion Ale has also opened near Tawaramachi two stations away from Ueno on the Ginza line: http://www.campionale.com/

Far from ueno but there's a pub called King George Pub in Omiya (I think that's the name anyway)
Unbelievably delicious fish and chips, beer is good, live music every week.
Simply the best pub I've ever been to in Japan.
I'll be checking out that place in Shibuya. Close to my office yet I've never seen it.
