Where can I buy a mobile? 2014/4/29 16:21
As the title says, I am currently looking for somewhere in Japan that I can buy a mobile phone that will work outside of Japan/AKA Australia :)

I dont mind the price, but it would be good if its around Tokyo or Osaka :) thank you :)

Maybe the Softbank store in Roppongi. Here's the address: 4-9-7 Roppongi, Minato, Tokyo 106-0032, Japan

We worked with them for our iphones and the staff was super helpful and also fluent in English.

almost all japanese phone sold by the telco shop are simlock, you cannot use it outside Japan (other company simcard), unless you sim unlock it or on roaming.

only NTT Docomo will let you sim unlock the phone for a fees of 3,+++ yen.
AFAIK Sofbank and Au do not sim unlock their phone.

once sim unlock/simfree then that phone can use other companies sim card.

checkout this online site for "new"/used phone. some of the phone are sim free(SIMƒtƒŠ[).

Japanese site:
(ebay type online store)

(they have physical shops around Japan)

English Site:
cater mostly to overseas buyer who want Japanese phone

It depends on how you plan to use the phone. For example, if you're a resident of Japan and just want a phone that you can use while travelling, then most phones on most carriers will work outside of Japan.

If you want a Japanese phone to use in Australia on an Australian carrier then your options are more limited. Basically Docomo if you want to buy from the carrier, or you'll have to check the secondary market. Note that not all of the phone's functions will work outside of Japan.
