Traditional Souvenir in Osaka 2014/5/9 14:41
Hi all,

I wondered if you know any place in Osaka where I can buy white clay figurine of the zodiac animals. I was in Japan last year and bought the horse figurine from the Hakata station. But this year, I won't be in Fukuoka. The figurines are nice and make a great gift. I got a small piece last year due to luggage restriction. I want to buy a bigger piece this year.

I guess the souvenir you buy in Hakata is Hakata Ningyo.

I have search whether it is available for purchase in Osaka, but I was not able to find it. Hakata Ningyo is pottery. The figure similar zodiac in other provinces in Japan are produced. However, since they are sold for the New Year decorations mainly, they are usually able to be sold as a seasonal product.

If you go to Kyoto, there is the shop below. There are also branche in underground shopping center of Kyoto Station.
