Someone suggested I could bring these as souvenirs for Japanese people. I was wondering if they are really suitable as gifts? How much do they cost in Japan anyway?

Mangos are expensive and people love them, so it'll be a good gift. However, some fruits are not allowed into Japan. So go to Japanese Custom site and see if you can bring them first.

Dried mango is not expensive and frankly would not make a particularly remarkable gift.

As Pilipilipino said, people don't think "dried" mangoes are good gift. But if it's something special, for example it's one of the local principal products, it's of course suitable as souvenirs. Price in Japan. http://ranking.rakuten.co.jp/daily/410864/"Fresh" mangoes are good gift, as tokyonet said.

Forget Rakuten, dried mangoes sell for 300 yen at supermarkets.

Dried mangos used to be great gifts in the 1980s when they were rare and expensive in Japan. We used to race for them when colleagues brought them back from Southeast Asia. But nowadays it's more of a better-than-nothing gift. People do still like the taste though.

I would agree with Uco - dried mangoes are readily available pretty much everywhere - they're sold in convenience stores.
Maybe go for something that you really like yourself, or something very local and unusual that has a story behind it.
