Birthday gift for female Japanese penpal?

Hi there, folks~
I've been writing to my penpal for quite a while now (since Nov of '13) and her birthday is coming up! Our birthdays are actually only 4 days apart, and so she has recently just sent me my birthday gift. She sent me a wonderful purse with some seaweed soup and rusk from Tokyo Disney.
I want to send her birthday gift soon, but I'm having trouble sending something "up to par" with the bag she sent me... I'd love to send something functional for her to use and a little more meaningful than the usual candies and small trinkets I send.
Thank you all in advance for any advice and/or ideas!

You might want to send her something that relates to your country. A beach bag with your countries flag on it. Some sweets from your country. Souvenirs. Stationary. Teenage fashion magazines. I think that you should look at the Japanese restrictions that can enter the country. :P

Seaweed and Tokyo Disney are quite uniquely Japanese. You may want to send something as unique, such as a specialty of your home country or home town.
But I gather that you are a female too. Whatever your favorites are, your friend may love it as well.

I agree with other. Keep the price low I say about. $80 and under that with shipping. A hand bag or a small going out purses from your country along with candies. If you know her size you can send her a top.
