correct or not? 2014/9/24 11:56
good morning everyone!

i would just like to ask if i got this translation correctly or not.

i tried to use google translate for the Japanese translation for one and one-half.

and the answer it gave me was this:
Hitotsu hanbun

so would it be right if i use this to order in a cafeteria? say for example ill order one and one-half rice? or noddle?

Thank a lot...

If you want one and a half rice, you can say
"ippai-han kudasai"

but I always use the word "oomori" in this situaion. it means bigger size.
In Ramen shop, You can choose normal size or Oomori size.

good luck!

In Japanese you need to specific about one and a half of "what" it is you are trying to refer to.

As chocodaruma mentioned, a bowl (of rice) would be "ippai han." This "-hai/pai" is called a counter, and there are different types to refer to different things.

For example, if you are talking about:
- Spending "a day and a half" in Kyoto, that would be "ichi-nichi han."
- Eating "one and a half bowl" (of rice), that would be "ippai han."
- Spending "a month and a half" time for learning Japanese before you travel would be "ikkagetsu han."

You see the "ichi" or "i-(followed by double consonant)," that represent "one."
The "-nichi,"-pai," or "-kagetsu" part is counter, and each is for days, for counting cups or bowls, and for months.

If the only usage you are thinking of is for bowls or rice or noodle, yes, the suggetions by earlier posters are very valid :)
