Please check my grammar 2014/11/5 00:45
Tomorrow night I have an oral exam for my Japanese class, and as part of that exam we have to ask my teacher questions. I was hoping someone here can check my grammar on a couple of questions to make sure I'm asking them correctly:

"Before you came to America, were you living in Sendai?"
先生はアメリカに来た時前千台に住んでいましたか。

"What are Sendai's culinary specialties?"
仙台の料理の名物は何ですか。

I'm hoping my memory is correct that he is originally from Sendai or else my second question might not make sense as a follow-up...

If anyone could verify that my questions not only make sense but are accurately using polite grammar, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

先生は、アメリカに来る前、仙台に住んでいましたか。

"before (doing something)" is "...(ru/u-form of the verb) mae."

"What are Sendai's culinary specialties?"
仙台の料理の名物は何ですか。

仙台の名物料理はなんですか。

"meibutsu ryouri" is a standing phrase :)

Thank you both for your suggestions. This will hopefully give me a bit more confidence going into the exam tonight. For some reason these oral exams always make me much more nervous than the actual written exams, even though they are so much shorter.

I appreciate your help. Thanks again.
