How are plush dolls called? 2015/1/5 13:12
Ok, this may sound stupid but it's an actual question.

How are plush, soft or cuddle dolls called in Japan? I tried on Amazon and Rakuten, with ドール and 人形 I get plastic dolls and with ぬいぐるみ I get animals, pokemons, etc. In fact, each animal has a category in Amazon, but I don't find nuigurumi resembling persons.

In my country these kind of dolls I'm looking for have a special name and category within toys ("muñecas peponas" in Spanish). In English I can find them simply as "plush dolls" for example. I wonder if they are called something specific in Japanese?

Here's an example of one I have:

They usually come with a fixed hat, wool hair, an embroidered face, long legs and big feet.

Thanks

If you say "daki ningyo" ("hug/cuddle doll), that should get you close to what you want. The only kind that comes to mind is "Cabbage Patch Kids," which became popular in Japan back then, so that would be a reference, though I know they later came up with some plastic faced ones too.

人形のぬいぐるみ (ningyo no nuigurumi) meaning "stuffed doll" is what you may be looking for.
