Which 5th Station in Mount Fuji? 2015/2/16 20:44
1) We are senior citizens ages 67 and 71 but do not yet require any special assistance.
2) Will start our trip from Odawara Station.
3) Is it the right way to board train or bus from Odawara / Hacone Yamoto Station to Mount Fuji?
4) If not, what are other or better ways?
5) Which 5th Station to get off?
6) How long is the trip?
7) How much will it cost?
Thank you very much...

When will you be traveling? The transportation situation varies greatly between the seasons.

Generally speaking, the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station has by far the best transportation access. During much of the year, it is even the only 5th Station to have access by public transportation.

2) Will start our trip from Odawara Station.

That is not a good place to start a trip to Mount Fuji's 5th Station. Especially not the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station.

Is it the right way to board train or bus from Odawara / Hacone Yamoto Station to Mount Fuji?

No, Hakone and Mount Fuji are two completely different places.

4) If not, what are other or better ways?

It depends on when you will be traveling. Outside much of the official climbing season, your only choice is the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station, which is far away from Odawara. During some periods (mainly the climbing season), it would also be possible to access one of the 5th Stations on the Shizuoka side. They are closer to Odawara.

I assume you are not considering renting a car. That could change the situation.

In the first week of May (which happens to be the very busy Golden Week period), the only 5th Station served by public transportation is the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station.

Access is described here:

If you come from Narita Airport, it is probably easiest to take the Narita Express to Shinjuku and then buses to the 5th Station.

The bus timetable is more or less the same. Transportation is only available to the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station.
