I will be bringing my six year old grandson to Japan in August. We will be staying in Tokyo. I wish to take him to Kamakura - would 12 or 13 (in Oban week) be good days?

It is usually spelled Obon.

Kamakura's beaches are likely to be very crowded if the weather is good, but I don't think the rest of the town is too heavily affected by the Obon holidays. What are you concerned about? Crowds?
