Advises on suitable train/bus tickets 2015/3/12 09:05
2/5 arrive Kansai Airport then Kyoto/Nara

5/5 Kyoto - Lake Kawaguchiko;
Evening: Lake Kawaguchiko - Hiroshima

6/5 Hiroshima - Miyajima - Osaka (evening)

9/5 Osaka - Kansai Airport

Please advise the best suitable tickets, and whether my planned trip is OK?

I plugged in the train route from Kawaguchiko station to Hiroshima Station into Hyperdia, and came up with over a seven hour ride on trains with at least four transfers.

That is going to be a very long day of travel.

You are also going the first week in May, which is Golden Week, and you may have trouble booking trains.

I would actually suggest that you take advantage of going during Golden week, and look for festivals to add to your trip.

Since you are going to Hiroshima, I am going to suggest that you attend the Flower Festival on May 3rd-5th. You would not have to go to every event, but I would suggest that you go to the traditional Japanese dance (Yosakoi) parade on May 3rd. Here is the Japan Attractions page on the Flower Festival:

Yosakoi reminds me of a Japanese version of an american high school drill team, but it will include all ages There are many U-ybe links to Yosakoi, Here is one:

So my suggestion would be to first go to Hiroshima, then go to Kyoto, then go to the Mount Fuji Area, and finally return to Kansai airport. This will break up your travel into smaller hops.

A seven day JR Pass, along with one of the Fuji Pass should work for you. To cut down on some of the travel time, you might look into going to Hakone (just south of Mount Fuji) instead of Lake Kawaguchiko. It also has a round course that takes you around the area. There is also a Hakone Free pass, and a Fuji Hakone Pass. Here are some links:

This should give you some information to make more informed choices. I hope this helps.

One other thing. I would think about catching a flight from Kansai Airport to Hiroshima to start out. Activate the JR Pass a day or two after that, so that it is active for the rest of your trip. It's one of the problems of having an eight day trip, and a seven day pass. If you were able to extend your trip a day or two, I would suggest going to Atami for the fireworks on May 9th. Here is another link:

Atami is very close to the Hakone Area.

Hi ebaychucky311,

Thanks for your help! I might travel to Japan a week after instead to avoid the Golden Week & also re-adjust my itinerary...
