Alternative Mapcode site? 2015/3/19 21:53
Just got a note from Viajar that it will stop service end of March 2015...

I've found mapcodes to be really useful when driving around in Japan.

Any idea if there are any alternative websites that provide mapcodes?
As I don't live in Japan, I'm unable to download the applications they recommended as alternatives.

Can you access the mapion site which we find very useful in finding mapcodes !?

What are Mapcodes? I've never heard the term.
I'm a big fan of maps and I load dozens I've re-done as .JPGs into my phone I use in Japan.
I use MapFan, Mapion, Yahoo,Japan, etc.

Mapcodes-a shorter form of latitude/longitude
so they take up less space and are easier to enter.

Mapcodes are really easy to use, and are very specific for each location.

Easier than noting down phone numbers (some places don't have phone numbers) or addresses (which can be long and cumbersome, plus some locations don't have an obvious address)

Just key into the GPS and it's done.
I've managed to use mapcode for 99% of the locations I had travelled to.

Map code is a 10 digit or less, that you enter into a car GPS navi system, this will give you the location on the map to the destination you require so the car can navigate you there.

Since I don't use GPS, that's why I don't know about Mapcodes. Thanks for enlightening me.

You can also use mapcode in mapion, there may be other sites that uses them, but using them in a car GPS Navi, is faster than inputting phone number and places, it's best to collect the mapcode beforehand.
