No 24 hour pharmacies in Tokyo? 2015/4/4 11:06
Question?

How come there are no pharmacies open 24 hours in Tokyo?
Where in the world do people get their medicine OTC or if they need it for something like a fever?
In America, we can drive thru at least anytime, anywhere even in the countryside!
A bit of an inconvenience in Tokyo I would think?!

Appreciate it,

There are some pharmacies that are open 24/7 in Tokyo. Google Matsumotokiyoshi and look for 24/7 store near you.

Convenience stores sell basic medicine such as those for stomach, colds and fever. Many districts also has a night and Holidays medical consultation clinic.

One of the reasons that most pharmacies aren't open 24/7 is because the law states that each pharmacy must have a licenced pharmacist available at all times, and it seems difficult to have these pharmacists working in the middle of the night. Since 2006, this law was relaxed for the certain medicine that are now available at the conbini.

But the Japanese are generally educated to keep stock of basic medical goods, and I never had to run to a doctor or pharmacy in the middle of the night. And most of the time, going to bed on an Ice-non pillow or putting a roasted negi around your neck works better than aspirin.

This is for reference.
