Tokyo Itinerary - 25 Jul 2015 2015/5/8 14:50
Hi,

Need some advice for my Tokyo Itinerary on this day. Will not be going to the usual tourist places as this will be my 3rd visit to Tokyo.

-----------------------

Kagurazaka

Marunouchi Naka-dori

Anyone been to the above places before and can advise if they're nice? If not, I'll go to Daikanyama or Shimokitazawa instead.

-----------------------

On 25 Jul, there will be 2 Festivals ongoing at 2 different places at the same time. Anyone been to either of them before and can advise which will be a better place to go? Sadly, this will be the only day I'll be in Tokyo.

Kagurazaka Matsuri (7 to 9pm)

Sumida River Fireworks (7 to 830pm)

Thanks in advance!

In asking whether Kagurazaka or Marunouchi Naka-dori, what do you want to see? To me, Kagurazaka has a somewhat oldish neighborhood feel, with some posh stores and small restaurants, and Marunouchi Naka-dori, at least on the Tokyo station end, is an office building area with many shops.

Daikanyama is high-end shopping area, and Shimokitazawa is more of an interesting neighborhood with small shops - grungy or hippie shops, bars for young people, a theater, etc..

For the festivals - expect HUGE crowd at Sumida River Fireworks, getting stuck in pedestrian traffic, queuing up at subway station entrances, etc., but is worth it if you've got the guts to join the crowd.

Kagurazaka Matsuri is a neighborhood thing, with some dances and small food stalls and things like that, so they are of completely different nature.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm actually just looking for a modern area that has the 'Tokyo' feel and It's unlikely I'll shop there. Hence, I like Daikanyama, particularly T site.

Another alternative I have in mind is Cat street at Harajuku.

For the sumida fireworks , I plan to leave at 8pm for Ueno as I need to board a train to narita city. (Train departs at 9pm). Will it still be packed at the time as the fireworks are still ongoing?
