Change Job inside Japan 2015/11/17 08:27
Hi Friends,

First I would like to thank you all for giving valuable reply every time.

I would like to inform that I am currently holding an eEngineer/specialist in humanities / intfl servicesf visa, which valid up to July 2020. I am working for my current company from July 2014. I got change to working visa from my previous student visa, while join this company. Now I would like to change my job and join in another company in Japan from beginning of 2016. As I read from immigration website, that as per the new law I should send a notification to immigration within 14days while changing job.

Now I have some confusion on above matter and need your important suggestion on it.

1) I prefer to not disclose with my current company that I am going to join some other company in Japan. Instead that I am going to say that, I will back to my home country and will not continue in Japan! Is that necessary to inform them the actual information?

2) From when the notification period for informing immigration is start! From the day I leave my current company or from the date I will join in my new company?

TIA

You need to notify immigration twice: first when your contract with your old company is terminated, and then when your contract with your new company is established. Each notification must be done within 14 days of the corresponding event.

As far as I know, you have no obligation to disclose your new contract to your old company. In fact, it is very common for Japanese employees to just tell their employer that they are leaving for "personal reasons", without expanding further. It is understood that what this really means is "I don't want to tell you why I am leaving".

1) There's no need to tell them anything. Once you stop working, they will inform immigration and are no longer responsible for you. What you do after that is no concern of theirs.

2) You have 14 days to inform immigration of your new status from the day you quit your job. If you start your new job within those 14 days, it's okay to wait until you've started, and inform immigration of your new job then. If it is longer than 14 days, you must inform them that you've quit within that period. It would be best if you also took in proof that you will start work with a new company to show immigration you've got a job lined up already and will start it, otherwise they may want to cancel or change your status. Then when you start working, you should inform them again.
