Driving Licence swap question

I need to swap my UK licence for a Japanese one - just wondered, do I have to forfeit my UK licence, or will I get to keep it too?
I know that in the UK, my wife swapped her Japanese licence for a British one, and then got the Japanese licence back from the embassy a little while later.

You will keep your UK license. The word "swap" or "exchange" for the specific process is rather misleading, but it is widely used.
