Hope you all are in good health.

There are dozens of them - it differs by each university. Most are small amounts, but some are larger (e.g. 100,000 yen / month for 1 or 2 years).

Many have some specific conditions - perhaps nationality, or a subject requirement - and basically all of them require you to maintain a strong GPA.

It's really best to ask your host university. However, I STRONGLY suggest that you do not rely on scholarships. If you do not have the financial resources to fund yourself (including paying tuition) for at least 2 years, you are probably setting yourself up for failure.

JASSO has a good list of scholarships available for study in Japan. http://www.jasso.go.jp/en/study_j/scholarships/index.html

Bottom line: the MEXT scholoarship is the only one which will cover all your costs (both tuition and daily expenses). All the others are only for assistance and must be supplemented by other sources.
