Requirements for teaching at int'l schools

Hi! I'm very interested in teaching at an international school in Japan. I'm a K-12 certified teacher from the U.S. but don't have TESOL or TEFL certifications/endorsements. Are those requirements or just nice to have? I'd appreciate any information on international schools, requirements, hiring procedures, or anything else anyone can speak to. Thanks for your help!

How about contacting schools? They should be happy to answer.

Just like the US, there is a large difference in quality in schools. Most of the better schools tend to normally teach expat kids - so TESOL is actually highly seen as a negative.
This is basically because TESOL is something that English Language teachers have - not teachers which have completed a degree in education such as yourself.
Applying directly to the schools is an option, but the jobs normally tend to be filled around Jan/Feb for an August start. I think Japanese schools tend to start around April but these schools are not international schools, but are Japanese schools which may use an international curriculum such as the IB.
Do note that Japan is a highly sought after destination on the international circuit, which means it's rather difficult to get a job here.
