How can a visitor cash a Japanese check? 2016/11/6 10:14
I will be in Japan as a visiting professor for 8 weeks. The university I will be associated with will pay me via check in yen. Because I will be in the country for less than 90 days, I will be considered a visitor or tourist and therefore will not be eligible to open a bank account at a Japanese bank (as far as I understand). My question is, how should I plan to go about cashing my checks issued by the university? Can I go to any local bank, without having an account, and cash the check?

Many thanks for any insights!
