Sending dishware overseas

Hi.
I saw a very nice dish set in Japan that I really like. I'm wondering how safe it would be to ship them back home by boat. I've done it before for books but I'm worried how safe it would be for something fragile like dishware.
Anyone for a similar experience?

Well, like numerous people around the world, my parents moved back and forth between Japan and North America as well as Europe, moving all our dishware (Japanese and Western, cheap and expensive) by boat, and I can't recall anything being damaged. So it completely depends on how well you ship it. Among the transport companies experienced in overseas moving is Nippon Express (Nittsu). I've also carry dishware in my checked baggage, and nothing has been damaged so far either. I wrap them in my clothes.
