In Japan, there are several national and regional cable television provider such as J:COM, Japan Cablenet (JCN) satellite television provider SKY PerfecTV, WOWOW, as well as IPTV : Hikari operated by NTT Plala, member of Japan Cable Television Engineering Association.

But I think people usually choose their local cable network, or if they have specific channels they want to view, they will choose the provider that provides them. Then they compare other deals such as internet and phone.

By the way, I don't think that WOWOW is a satellite television provider in the same sense as SkyperfecTV.
