Buying a washlet in japan worthwhile? 2017/8/29 05:52
I can get a japanese washlet here in Germany for about \40.000 (converted). I guess it's licenced japanese rebuild. (the company is called Wacor https://wacor.de/ ) At least it looks a lot like Toto.
Anyway...
I have done a quick search on rakuten and they have, at least in my sense, brands with a name for just ~\15000 (if I'm not wrong).
So I thought it might be a good idea to buy one while traveling and taking it back to my country. I still have one luggage 25kg free, so I don't even need to get it delivered.
As far as I could figure tax would be 17.5%.

Can I buy a "cheap" yet solid quality washlet below say \30000?
I guess I would buy it in Fukuoka before flying back.
Or is it a bad idea and I should just stick to the one mentioned above.

Check electrical, but If OK, then you should be OK with a j-domestic model. I have taken and installed in the US - models on discount sale here, w/o any problems.

The power voltage is different Germany(230v) and Japan(100v), so you need a large transformer to use a JP model washlet in Germany and plug adapter.
If you have voltage concern, a portable washlet is possibly good for you.

Yeah of course I know I need that adapter. But I can order them relatively cheap.
But I'm aware of it. Thanks for mentioning it anyway :)

I'm more curious about the price/quality of the products in japan though.

Ummm... maybe not. Japan-Guide (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4883.html) says "The products displayed at the showroom are available to residents of Japan, and purchase for overseas use would likely be rather complicated." But they also show toilets for use overseas. So at least you can indulge in all the possibilities of the world of toilets ;-)

Enjoy your visit to ... Japan!

Hi,
Years ago i brought a washlet from Japan to Holland. Installing was no big problem. I had to change the mounting screws a little bit and of course had to deal with the voltage conversion 240-100V. Frequency and water connection was no problem. Read about the voltage conversion other threads on this forum. (Do a search on washlet).
The (cheaper) models in Europe do by far not have the options the Japanese models have.

I ended up getting one that works from a battery that is recharged from the waterflow. I have had it for 6 years and the battery is still good. It doesnt have any functions other than a few adjustments for pressure and angle, so the cold water can be a little bracing in winter, though I suppose it isnt as though you are splashing it on your face.

Setup is not problem, I have all of that sorted out already.
Just looking for a cheaper option than what I can get in my country.

I got one in Japan that had a different thread size on the plumbing connections so I had to find adapters. I don't know if Germany and Japan use the same standards.

The one I have now is a Novita, a top of the line Korean made unit. It's the highest quality I've owned but I never purchased a Toto to compare it with as they're expensive. In Japan I had an Inax, which was good quality.

If you buy in Japan, you might get a controller like on the Inax:

Re: Buying a washlet in japan worthwhile? 2017/9/2 09:32
I am no expert. I'm just a Japanese resident who have used three different washlets at home. But have you considered just buying a washlet seat (benza) instead of the whole pot?

They typically come with a seat-warmer, and is much more easier to install. An ordinary housewife like me can install it as opposed to what is sold as a whole pot. And therefore you will be loosing less even if they break or doesn't work out or whatever. Needless to say, they are much portable.

Either way, washlets are available from various toilet makers such as Toto, Lixil, and Panasonic, and each have showrooms throughout Japan where you can actually touch them, flush them and see how the showers come out. Then you can purchase them on-line or at electric appliance stores. If you're looking for the cheapest deal, kakaku.com is helpful.

Note, however, that I've never used them overseas and have no knowledge about it.
