Hi!
I looked for this subject here in the forum but did not find anything related.
I will soon live in Japan with a long-term resident visa.
So, Im planning to buy an unlocked iphone in the apple store and then hire only a voice + data plan on Au or DoCoMo.
What do you think about it? Is it better hire a voice+data+locked iphone with providers or buy separately unlocked iphone in apple store? (probably I will stay in japan for more than 2 years).

I would go for an unlocked iPhone. Simply if you are moving away from Japan or are abroad for some time, you can get a SIM card there and use your phone.
Just my personal opinion.
Enjoy your life in Japan!
