Car Insurance NCB confirmation/transfer

My car insurance will end with my current company soon. Will they automatically send me a letter or something with confirmation of my insurance record and especially all my years of No Claims Bonus, so I can hopefully transfer to new provider.
Or do I need to specifically ask for something?
