Fuji Hakone pass

The pass is for 3 days. When does it start? On the time of the departure from Shinjuku ? If that so, do we have three nights having to leave (be on the return) before this same time for the return (after 3 days)?
I want to plan if I stay two or three nights.

You have two nights. Think of it this way:
Day 1 is the day you travel/ Hakone (night 1)
Day 2 is whatever you are doing in Hakone (night 2)
Day 3 is whatever you do in Hakone/Leaving
because if you stayed that 3rd night, when you woke up in the morning it would be Day 4. I hope this makes sense. :)
