Yaeyama islands canoeing/kayaking 2018/3/1 08:21
Hi there,
I read on several tours on kayaking/canoeing on Iriomote and Ishigaki island but most seem not to be suitable for lone travellers like me.

I would not dare renting a canoe myself in case I would fell out in the water.

Is it possible to find tours for 1 traveller? Seems hard.

Also, I am not sure what kind of clothing to bring during the tours as they say you should bring a swimsuit or swim shorts (I am a male), towel and change of clothes.

Not sure what kind of swim clothing I would bring, I only have two pairs of swimming shorts. Maybe some synthetic (non cotton) t-shirts would do?

Please don't worry.. many of the tours will happily accept single travellers.

Try:

Some swimming trunks under some shorts and a t-shirt should be fine, with a towel in a backpack and change of clothes if needed, depending on the season.

Good luck!

Thanks a bunch.

Apparently the tour operators lend waterproof bags, boots, life wests and so on. As I understand they also keep backpacks during the tour but you are supposed to keep valubles to yourself. I would not dare bring a camera in case the canoe tipped over. Not sure how safe the bag provided is either.

I read on some tours that had a photographer as well as to avoid this problem, not sure where I read it though....

Would a cotton t-shirt do or should I bring something that dries quicker? Not sure about the weather and humidity, but I know cotton dries very slow and if it is very humid... I guess it would take longer. Just trying to avoid getting a cold.
