4th time in Japan - 5 days 2018/3/8 14:26
Hi there,

I impulsively bought a flight ticket for Japan for 5 days during Easter weekend. This will be my 4th time in Japan, so I'm looking for something new to do for 2 or 3 days, then back to Tokyo for at least the last couple of days to see the sakura and spend one night at the Golden Gai :)

I already went to Kyoto, Osaka, Koyasan, Hiroshima/Miyajima, Nara, Nikko, Fuji 5 lakes and Tohoku region. I was thinking going to Amanohashidate, but it seems like a lot a train for not that much at the end. Was also thinking about Hakone, but I'll be travelling alone this time, and it seems more like a destination for couples...

Would anyone have any recommendation?

Cheers,
C.

With 2-3 days you donft have that much time. What about Nagano and Matsumoto or Kanazawa, Shirakawa, Ainokura and Noto peninsula
Or just go to places for Sakura spotting. There is a Sakura forecast page here where you can see best places.

Enjoy your trip to Japan!

Agreed, that's not much time. Certainly don't spend a lot of it sitting on trains. Matsumoto definitely fits the bill nicely. From Tokyo you can get to Matsumoto by Azusa Express train or by Highway Bus (even cheaper) and spend several days seeing something different.

Sightseeing Ideas:

Reasonably priced, clean accommodations, with very friendly and knowledgeable hosts:

Great Hot Springs:

One of the most awesome castles (and a National Treasure):

Nice half-day excursion:

Great art exhibition going on now:

A fantastic Ukiyoe museum:

Lots of great food, too. Here's one very good place to eat:

If you want to spend (a lot) more on fancier accommodations, definitely try this place:

etc.

5 days during Easter weekend.

Do you mean late March to 1st April? If so, this will hit the cherry blossom peak in Tokyo. Meguro river and Chidorigafuchi are one of the best cherry blossom spots in Japan.
