Skilled laborer

My husband and I would very much like to work in Japan for a few. He has 10+ years in construction and has even owned his own business doing so. Would this count as the requirement needed of skilled labor for a work visa in Japan. We currently live in the US.
Thank you for all answers and any help provided.

Maybe. This is highly dependent on the exact nature of the work to be done in Japan, and nobody here can give you an answer as to whether a given job would satisfy immigration.

This is the first hit from a google search: http://www.japanvisa.com/visas/japan-skilled-labor-visaIf he's an ordinary construction worker, then he probably doesn't qualify. Japanese construction companies import cheap labor from Vietnam and other developing Asian countries under the "trainee" program. Mexican immigrant workers work harder than Americans and get paid less. The same is true for Vietnamese workers in Japan. They work harder than Japanese and get paid much less. It wouldn't make sense for them to import an American worker.
