Cheap Whisky (Whiskey) Tasting

Hi,

I'm currently travelling Japan and I am looking to taste and bring back some very good mid range whiskey.

I regularly drink single malts and being Scottish I'd love to get a few Japanese whiskey bottles to take home.

Can anyone recommend any good places to taste, that won't be too expensive? We found a shop in Tokyo named Liquor Hasegawa, which did 100 Yen tasting. Sadly, we are not going back to Tokyo. We are currently in Kyoto and heading to Osaka and Nara before heading south.
So any recommendations similar to this place would be greatly appreciated.

If you can't find a specialist store, why not just go to various combinis and try out some of the small bottles that they have there?
